DRAW – LONDON

My drawing of the band Trans Am was in the 2008 group exhibition DRAW at the Stolen Space Gallery in London.

DRAW was an exhibition featuring original drawings from over 300 vanguard artists in the urban, tattoo, design, illustration, skateboard, and music worlds. The show is a tribute to the often-underrated but fundamental building-block of visual and graphic art: the drawing.

The following is a sample of the artists whose work is included in the show: Moby, Barry McGee, HR Giger, Clive Barker, Gibby Haynes, Ron English, Kat Von D, Tim Biskup, Ben Cho, David Ellis, Mark Gonzales, Derek, Hess, Rich Jacobs, KAWS, NeckFace, Rick Griffin, Vaughn Bode, Hank Williams III, Kerry King of Slayer, WK Interact, Chris Johanson, Aurel Schmidt, Kathy Grason, Jeff Ladouceur, Gordon Hull, Doze Green, Chris Johanson, Dalek and David Choe.

DRAW was curated by Erik Foss and Curse Mackey and co-curated by Jamie O’Shea, Tim Barber, Sto, Cinders Gallery, Damian Wiencrants, Jacaber Castor and Mike Aho.

PARIS EXHIBITION 2004

Many years ago in 2004 I had my first solo exhibition at Surface to Air in Paris. Back then I had only just started to draw professionally and I hadnt a clue what I was doing. I had half of my drawings for the show printed out and blown up to 10 times their size. I think I thought the bigger the better. They were massive and looked awful! I only sold one piece from the whole show. This was a tiny pencil drawing of a fried English breakfast on a plate! I sold it for £50. Above are two of my favourite drawings from this Paris show.

This self portrait is me in the tiny kitchen of a bedsit that I lived in when I first moved to London back in 2002. I called this place Matchbox Mansions. I didnt have a desk so I used to draw on the floor and mice would run over my paper. I had good times there though.

The top drawing was also shown in 2005 at a group exhibition called Jumble in Tokyo and the self portrait was more recently published in the Nylon magazine book – ‘PLAY: The Nylon Book of Music’.
